This is so disappointing. These actions further prove the point that the "AER" is indeed beholden to corporations and their greed, rather than fulfilling it's original mandate which is to responsibly steward our natural heritage and serve the interests of Albertans (not corporations). Shame on you "AER". You have lost your way.
Whether it's the AER or the UCP, neither is working for the citizens of AB. The only win here is O&G and those who own shares in these companies - and the majority shareholders do not live in AB, or Canada.
Sucks to be us for sure. But until we stop voting for the neoliberal globalists ......start seeing them as the well suited fascists that they are......I doubt we'll dislodge the wealth takers and poverty creators that our low tax, privatize and deregulate mindset has given us.
If the public opposes, no hearing for you! It's time to remove the Alberta Energy Regulator and replace it with an entity which operates for the public good.
For that to happen we need to vote differently, massively so....and then stay connected enough to make sure those posing as democratic socialists aren't more plants of the extractivist industries.

Could the AER be anymore of a PR front for the O&G industry?
Albertans are so poorly served by this farcical plausible deniability construct.

The AER is fully funded by the o&g industry.
"He who pays the piper, calls the tune!".
An independent regulator with real regulatory teeth, paid for out of increased, higher royalty rates, has long been required.

Authoritarian libertarianism.
Of course it would be evident in the paper tiger AER. This sham regulator has been a rubber stamp for any O&G proposal for years.
The AER is the model of authoritarian libertarianism. Remove oversight while pushing decision making into the office of the minister.
AER is owned by the UCP. A new government needs to make sure the AER is not controlled by politicians. It must be non partisan.
